JANET Stakeholder Consultation January 27, 2010

On 19th January, Chris Young was invited to participate in a stakeholder workshop to consider the ways JANET could best respond to the increase in external facing engagement within the organisations to which it provides services .

The workshop included three presentations from Stirling, Loughborough and Coventry universities describing their experiences with extending networked infrastructure provision to support activities with external partners. The discussion was chaired by Di Martin (also chair of the JISC BCE Advisory Board) and included

There was understandably much discussion around the wording and interpretation of the JANET connection policy. Whilst fundamental for access to JANET services, it was recognised that this the policy might not be as big a barrier to as perceptions within IT services would suggest.

Overall there was a useful set of recommendations for JANET to take forward  – mostly focused around widening participation, improvements in clarity of message and simpler provision (without duplication).
