JISC Advance Focus Group February 4, 2010
Posted by Chris Y in : Events, Updates , add a commentOn the 22nd January the first of two planned focus meetings took place in Newcastle, with participants drawn from the JISC Advance Advisory Services.
As part of the engagement between this project, JISC Advance and the wider BCE programme, a key aim of these exercises is to improve the understanding of JISC’s message on BCE to its community. It is also important for services to learn to recognise how support and advice they provide is contributing to the engagement activities of their community customers – and to uncover relevant knowledge and experience (possibly as yet untapped) within the JISC Advance Advisory services.
Representatives from JISC Digital Media, JISC InfoNet, JISC Legal, JISC Mail JISC Netskills JISC Procureweb and JISC TechDis discussed an view of “BCE: Business as usual?” for institutions, presented by Rob Allen from the JISC Advance BCE team. The presentation has evolved during individual service visits carried out by the BCE team as a way to map typical activities of an academic institution to he BCE dimensions being used by JISC (and others):
- Employer Engagement
- Lifelong Learning
- Knowledge Exchange
- Public, Cultural and Community Engagement
Other activities explored the relationship between activities within these dimensions and the real experiences captured in the BCE practitioner videos.
There is a follow-up focus session planned for May 2010.
